Why Pirates
Ahoy, mates! Interesting true pirate fact:
The pirate Bartholomew Roberts (aka Black Bart), was the most successfull pirate of the Golden Age of Piracy, having captured over 470 vesles in his day. What made him so successful? We can’t say for sure, but some things that made him unique is that he was also known for his fine taste, flamboyant clothing, love for music, and famously, instead of rum, he favored tea!
Does the dread pirate Roberts sound familiar? Bartholomew Roberts may have also been the inspiration for a certain pirate character in an iconically classic 80’s movie. Just like the character from the silver screen, the real Roberts was also was initially sailing in a merchant vessel when he was captured by pirates and reluctantly forced to join the crew. On the ship he was so well revered by his fellow crew members that he was pushed into becoming captain of the pirate ship. True story! We’re not sure if he was ever called the “man in black” through, as he notoriously wore a crimson waistcoat and a red feather in his hat with a gold chain around his neck.
We were so inspired by Roberts’ true tale and his love for tea that we decided to create a whole collection of fine teas on the tastes of this legendary real life pirate. Drink up matey, and may you have the energy and fortitude of a pirate!
